October 11th is sure to be a great time at Newport Vineyards and their Harvest Open House-no stomping here..they are viewing the vines in a horse drawn carriage…music will be provided by local band Abbey Rhode.  They will have tastings as well as the tour and on October 12th join them for a clambake…for more info contact:  info@newportvineyards.com

Running Brook Winery and Vineyards have their Harvest Festival and Wine and Dine on October 17th and 18th, unfortunately I’ll miss this one, as I’ll be in Maine,but it is sure to be a hoot! I wish I could join Doc, John and Steve and I wish them better weather than today!

This year I have been to Jones Winery, McLaughlin Vineyards, DiGrazia Vineyards, Priam Vineyards, Sharpe Hill Vineyard, Jonathan Edwards Winery, Stoington Vineyards, Maugle Sierra Vineyards, Chamard Vineyards and Bishop’s Orchards Winery.  These are only some of the wineries you will find along the Connecticut Wine Trail. www.ctwine.com  I have stopped and picked apples,pears, raspberries, blackberries and peaches are some of the local farms…last weekend I picked blackberries at Wright’s Orchard and Dried Flower Farm…a little spot of paradise…

A few weeks ago I was at the Big Apple in Wrentham buying my husband’s favorite apple pie and picking blueberries….I saved my apple and peach picking for Nashoba Valley Winery.  Great fruit wine starts with wonderful fresh fruit and that is waht Nashoba Valley Winery has to offer.  If you pick any fruits or purchase them from our local farms…you will never want to purchase any from the grocery stores.

It is good for you and good for our local farmers….please support our local wineries and farms!!!

Today..despite the rain we went to Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery for their annual Harvest Festival…I don’t think it could have rained any harder and the lightening added it’s own special entertainment…despite all this it was a lot of fun…We realy enjoyed sipping the 2008 Riesling as we listened Westport Rivers Vineyard’s own Putnam Murdock..singing and playing from what I would call the hay loft from my days at the barn.  Another treat was seeing artist Betsey MacDonald exhibit at the art gallery…her Morgan horses again brought me back to my horse showing days.

I hope you take some time, rain or shine…sip some wine..the New England way….support our local wineries..

I have been busy with family and fun on the Cape…Paul escaped with his son to Napa and Sonoma and even met some transplanted New Englander’s while wining in California.  Now we are happy to get back to New England Vine.

This is sure to be a relaxing evening, sailing Vineyard Sound on a three mast Staysail Schooner carrying over 1,700 square feet of sail spread over six sails. We will depart from Falmouth Harbor (MA) at 6:00p.m. The captain requires our guests to arrive by 5:30 p.m. in order to have everyone on board and ready to set sail at 6:00 p.m. promptly.

Bring your camera, friends, sunscreen and be prepared to enjoy a two hour sail on Vineyard Sound. A great gift for yourself or for friends and family. The cost is $60.00 per person and includes the sail, light appetizers paired perfectly with the wine and a wine tasting. Additional wine, beer, and non alcoholic beverages are also available during the sail, but are not included in the above cost. For reservations of 6 or more guests, the cost is $55.00 per person.
